I have interest, awareness, and experience in working with multicultural issues. I am keenly aware of the differences that exist between American and Asian (particularly South Asian) cultures and the ways in which they manifest as stressful experiences within families, couples, and other significant relationships.
In addition to this cross-cultural awareness and knowledge, I'm also experienced in issues relating to experiences of immigration and migration. These can vary from feelings of loneliness, homesickness, and difficulties with making authentic social/romantic connections to conflicts with forming a stable cultural identity.
I also have interest and experience in working with issues around intersectionality (intersecting social identities) such as ethnicity and sexual orientation, gender and class, etc.
Believing that cultural competence is a lifelong learning experience, I stay au courant with psychological research on these topics along with literature and films portraying hyphenated or shifting identities.
